Mecha

  • So yeah, the fact that you got both zombies and mecha's in the same game is very awsome indeed. However the way we have talked about it is that even though we eventually will buy ourselves some mecha's it is not and should not be considered a high priority with the ongoing terrain project and painting of the infantry units.
  • But.. ofcourse sometimes it's hard to keep yourself from buying a damn mecha anyway. Now SOTR recently released the German Tiger mecha, alot of people have gone "ZOMG" and all other online slang over this miniature. Martin thinks it looks great aswell, and me.. not so much. Might just be the design that doesn't appeal to me at all. Though I do think that the walkers body should be taken up mostly by it's legs I just feel that the Tiger mecha got a bit too much legs, just makes it look immobile. Simply put, there is zero movement in the miniature and looking at it I just can't picture it being able to move an inch. The other German mecha's looks pretty okey, though I am not the biggest fan of the Jet mecha.
  • The American Mecha is pretty okey I guess, though there is something about the arms that doesn't feel right. I personally expressed my wish that the walkers would look less like "humanoid-robots" and more like "walking-tanks". Now I think I've found what I am looking for from another company. Some of you might have seen these before but I would like to post them again since I think they are brilliant. From Dust miniatures, here you have two mecha's, one American and German. They will be released the 30th or October according to the online store and cost 26 euro.

Update: Work session

So after some trouble with the local bus connections I managed to drag myself over to Martin's apartment for another work session. Now the terrain is actually still unpacked and stuck inside a box in a closet so we kept working on the infantry. So basically we had a work order set up, we do this each time to keep track on where we are going with the miniatures and what to do next. Today we divided it like this.

Claes: Chameleon Snipers, 2 models
Martin: Wheatering effects on 48 infantry. Adding dust, mud, metal edging.

When I was done with the two chameleon snipers I ended up going back to the Springfield sniper and adding the same camoflage that I did on the Chameleon ones. We discussed a bit what colours we were to use on the chaemlon sniper weapons but in the end decided to go with the US army violet green, same used for most metal objects in the american army at the time, not on their weapons though in general with the exception from bazookas etc.

I was having some issue's with the knifes on the miniatures. It is so badly sculpted that without knowing it was knife one could never tell. I had already paindet the sheath's in flat brown and was wondering wether or not use the same on the handle seeing flat brown is the colour we had used for both leather and tree parts on weapons. Now if we were to be historicaly accurate atleast according to http://www.flamesofwar.com/ we should have used a colour called red leather for the Knife sheath's, however that is the same colour used on the boots and I still think that colour felt way of when we used it for the boots. However we have decided to keep it on the boots atleast for now. So I am stuck feeling that I've manged to make it look as all soldiers are carrying a plank of wood around with them on their backs.. weird. Wish it look more like knifes in the first place.

Another thing is the ammuntion to the 30.cal - 50.cal guns, right now it is looking a bit to much like bronze/gold so that will have to be reworked along with some other minor details. We do have and issue with taking pictures that really does our minitures justice. There are very sublte details on them and so far all pictures taken manages to show them the wrong way. We will try and take some more proffsional pictures of miniatures in time, showing of up to 5 miniatures at a time and not the entire army.

So with that in mind here is another picture taken, as mentioned above, this is not a very good picture, but we feel it is better to post semi-bad picture then none at all. Do enjoy and please feel free to leave any ideas or opinions as comments. All feedback is welcome both pro's and con's.

Introduction

What is project Arnhem 1949?

  • The project was started by professional minature painting artist Martin Lindblom aka Amongtheway (amongtheway.blogspot.com) in Kalmar, Sweden. Now I don't recall the exact reason he choose Arnhem as a terrain project but we had been speaking about several terrain alternatives for a long time prior to his decision.

  • We've had several other table top miniature wargaming projects on going for quite some time, among them were "Space Marines: First contact" which is a project we started on long before the announcement that GW were releasing a new Space hulk of their own. Our project could be discribed as Advanced Space hulk. If ever we have enough time we will most likely finish that project aswell.

  • However, a bit tired of Games Workshop in general we sought something new to both play and work on. There are many things that apealed to us with Secrets of the third reich. Nazi zombies? Ofcourse. We are all pretty interested in the second world war in general so the time period fit us well, but I think what interested me mostly was that unlike games like Warhammer 40k this game were more a scenario based game and a game where you didn't have to have your own army. Instead we could just buy all sides and own them and work on them together. I think that is awsome.

  • So basically to make a quick summary of what the project is would be saying that we are trying to make a table top terrain of the dock/bridge area from the city of Arnhem in Holland during the second world war. We are using flight photos taken 1944 as references and to the best of our ability we will try make it as historicaly accurate as possible. We are also paiting an army for every faction.

  • The fact of the matter is that we have just gotten started on the terrain project and as of yet I have not yet actually been able to attend one of the work sessions when we've worked on the terrain pieces. There has only been two such session at this point.

  • Martin has been holding on to all the terrain pieces and as of late July he became a father to a litle boy which have taken up alot of his already limited time. As if that wasn't enough he also had to move into a new apartment in august. Now, this put the terrain project on a temporary halt.

  • In the meantime we have managed to start working on painting some of the miniatures, we started with the American infantry. They are not finished but they should be in one or two more sittings. I will post the few pictures we have taken so far. As the project progresses we will continue to post pictures and updates.

First post

This is just a test posting. However I will soon do the real "Introduction" post for this blog. However, I may aswell mention that this blog will mainly follow a terrain project to the table top game Secrets of the third reich where we try and recreate a piece of the bridge area from the city of Arnhem during the second world war. As a reference we will be using photos taken 1944 from airplanes and to the best of our ability we will try and recreate the buildings in the correct scales.

The projects current rooster is:

Martin Lindblom, project leader and main artist.
Claes Viderberg, artist, blogadmin.
Måns Waldenström, artist, walking wikipedia.
